Rainwear Buying Guide

Posted on: March 27, 2011

If you are searching for appropriate rainwear, there are some things that you will need to decide before you start shopping. While rainwear is not necessary all of the time, there are times when it is necessary to keep your clothing dry. Here are some of the things you should take into consideration before shopping for rainwear.

Decide on your budget

Like any other type of outerwear, rain gear is available in a wide range of prices. From an inexpensive poncho to a more costly rain suit and everything in between, setting your budget will be necessary. While you do not want to skimp on quality, there is no need to spend more money than necessary to get the raingear that you need to keep you warm and comfortable.

Decide on style

Before shopping for rain wear, make sure you have an idea of what style you are interested in owning. Whether you need rainwear for occasional wear such as at a ballgame, for fishing or for heading to work, it will make a difference in what you purchase. You may need more than one rain coat if you have different needs, or you may decide on a rain set that will fill the bulk of your needs.

Color choices

Remember when raincoats only came in drab browns or bright yellow? Not anymore! Today, you can purchase rain jackets and rain gear in a variety of colors! From the more traditional yellows and browns to fluorescent colors and every color in between, you can find a rain coat or rain set that fits your particular fashion sense.

For most, wearing subtle colors may be a preference, however, if a fisherman or hunter is purchasing a rain suit, they may prefer a brighter color enabling them to be seen more easily in gloomy weather. It may be more appropriate to purchase brighter colors for children as well.

Sizing

Make sure you carefully review the sizing of all rainwear. Each manufacturer has their own sizing charts and what may be a “large” by one company may be a “medium” in another company. Carefully review size charts for shoulder, bust and hip sizes and make sure the rain gear that you buy will fit you well. Do not take any chances and guess at the proper sizing, always use size charts for the particular manufacturer to determine the size that will fit best.

Wearing patterns

If you are only going to wear a rain coat or jacket in the spring, chances are that you do not want one that is fully lined. This could make you very uncomfortable. Some people prefer to purchase a separate rain coat or rain jacket for wearing to work versus casual-wear. Others may prefer to have one type of rain jacket that will be suitable for both dress and casual occasions. Whichever you prefer, finding the right rain coat for your lifestyle is very important.

Summary

Rain wear is something that most of us will purchase at some time in our lives. Whether you are purchasing a rain coat, rain jacket or a rain set, you want to find the best possible rainwear for your individual needs.
